Kutir is a new Indian eatery that just opened in Prospect. It’s a lovely modern Indian restaurant that takes you on a journey.
We opted for the banquet as it was $75 pp and it came with 6 entrees, 5 main dishes, and 1 dessert. It was definitely worth it for that price as we were so full by the end of it. Keep in mind that the banquet comes with a lot of deep-fried dishes so you would be full by the end of the entrees. The service was friendly but there was just some communication issues between the kitchen staff and the waiter. The waiter we had was excellent though but unfortunately, the kitchen staff didn’t tell the waiter that there wasn’t a lobster dish like it said on the menu but they had not told us so we were a bit confused. We were looking forward to the lobster! It would have made the banquet even better. They were apologetic though and we got to choose another dish to replace it. I would have preferred fewer deep-fried dishes and more variety as some of the dishes seemed like it was the same thing. Overall, it was a lovely restaurant with a lovely sheltered outdoor area. It was perfect for a rainy day!
Favourite dishes: my favourite dishes were the lychee scallops, smoked prawns, butter chicken and the gronut with kulfi ice cream. Who would have thought to put lychee with scallops? It was an amazing food combination. The sauce on it tasted like a black bean sauce that you would find at a Chinese restaurant but when you bite into the lychee afterwards you have a burst of lychee flavour and it was so lovely. Loved the tandoori flavour of the smoked prawns and it wasn’t deep fried like the other dishes were. The butter chicken was a bit overcooked but loved the creamy tomato sauce as it was very fragrant and not like the traditional butter chicken flavour. The gronut is like a doughnut with a honey glaze but what I loved the most was the kulfi ice cream. So delicious!
Least favourite: I just didn’t like all the deep-fried dishes that we had for the entrees. It was just too much and the presentation all looked the same so it kind of all tasted the same. They had put lettuce on some of the dishes, which was unusual and more Western style. The chef had worked with Gordon Ramsay so I can see why!
